Model test of the staged teacher training

Bachelor study

Since the introduction of the teacher training program according to the LABG 2009 in the winter semester 2011/12, the Bachelor's program in the pilot program of staged teacher training is being phased out and can only be started if the student is placed in a higher subject semester.

The Bachelor's program in the tiered teacher education (2-subject Bachelor's program) prepares students for a Master of Education program with the teaching subject. The Bachelor's program concludes in 6 semesters with a first professional degree in the form of Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Education depending on the subject combination. The subject Psychology can be studied for the teaching profession at Gymnasiums and the corresponding year groups at comprehensive schools (Sek II) as well as at vocational colleges.

Structure of the Bachelor's program

The bachelor's program consists of 110 semester hours (1 SWS corresponds to 1 teaching hour per week during the lecture period). In addition, two four-week internships (in-school and out-of-school) are completed and the program is concluded with a Bachelor's thesis. Psychology can be studied as a core subject and as a complementary subject. In addition to the two subjects, courses from an overarching area with the abbreviation BiWi (Education & Knowledge) are studied.

Through the study program, candidates should be enabled to understand concepts and technical terms of psychology, to apply them appropriately to the everyday world of experience, and to process and convey psychological content didactically.

Master study

The master's program lasts four semesters and serves to deepen the scientific, educational and didactic knowledge and skills for a teaching position at Gymnasiums and comprehensive schools (GyGe) or at Berufskollegs (Bk). The study program is oriented towards the development of basic professional competencies for teaching and education, assessment, counseling and diagnostics, as well as evaluation and quality assurance.

The master's program can be started in the summer and winter semesters. Upon completion of the program, the degree "Master of Education" is awarded. Achievements from the Bachelor's and Master's programs are recognized upon application by the State Examination Office as the First State Examination, which is currently still the prerequisite for the preparatory service (Referendariat) of a teaching profession.

Admission requirements

The prerequisite for studying the Master of Education with Psychology as one of the two teaching subjects is the successful completion of the Bachelor's program in the two chosen subjects.

Bachelor's students of TU Dortmund University who change to the Master's program submit an application for a change of program to the Registrar's Office.

If you have completed your Bachelor's degree at another university, you must clarify whether you have the necessary prerequisites in order to transfer to the TU Dortmund University to study for a Master of Education. In general, only subjects in which a degree has already been obtained in a previous study program can be continued. In order to check whether the necessary prerequisites are met, the equivalence of the degree with the corresponding Bachelor's degree at the TU Dortmund must be checked. For this purpose, an application for admission to the Master' s program must be submitted. Please note that the examination takes some time.

Both applications can be found under Documents and Forms or on the web pages of the Student Secretariat.

Curriculum

All Master of Education students take a theory-practice module (TPM modules) in their psychology teaching major. This module from the field of subject didactics is intended to support students in using the subject-specific and subject-didactic knowledge acquired in their Bachelor's and Master's studies in psychology teaching for the first time, in order to convey psychological content in a way that is appropriate to the target group and clear, as well as to analyze and further develop their own didactic approach.

Students who have completed the bachelor's degree in the subject-specific profile with psychology as a complementary subject at the TU Dortmund University study, in addition to the TPM module in psychology, the modules 3 to 9 of psychology that have not yet been completed in the bachelor's degree, amounting to 30 SWS.

The Master's program concludes with a Master's thesis. This can be completed in both teaching subjects or in educational science. The subject of the master's thesis is deepened by a so-called master's thesis module.
